SGI machine is a workstation computer that its purpose was to do multimedia such as: creating graphics, creating animation, and anything that was related to multimedia. basically no one still uses SGI to do multimedia anymore because a standard multimedia PC can do the job very easily. but back then computers can only display CGA graphics meaning that it can only display cyan, light purple, black, & white color. people that wanted to do multimedia needs to purchase these bad boys in order for them to create sexy graphics and animation.
the history of SGI machines
SGI machines was developed and published by Silicon Graphics, Inc. The founder of silicon graphics Inc was: James H. Clark, Charles Kuta, Kurt Akeley, David J. Brown, Abbey Silverstone. Basically silicon graphics Inc were once a supreme leader in the multimedia super computer, every digital multimedia artist back in the early 90s bought SGI machines. onyx is one of them. Silicon graphics after declining from its reputation just becomes an ordinary company like any other ordinary company. They were once a supreme producer of the multimedia workstations but now the market for multimedia workstations is already dried up and people begin to choose the multimedia workstations based on their only taste.
